Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Randika Lakmal Jayalath yesterday (May 26) approved a detention order to question former Sri Lankan cricketer – Shehan Madusanka who was arrested by the Pannala Police with a large quantity of heroin in his possession.
The Magistrate ordered to detain him for questioning until June 01.
The police further stated that they had conducted a search at the suspect’s house based on a tip-off, and found a heroin stash among the suspect’s sports trophies. They also mentioned that the suspect was hiding behind a sofa.
The police requested a detention order as a comprehensive investigation was required to ascertain as to how the suspect obtained the heroin.
Police also informed the magistrate that the suspect was previously produced before court over possession of heroin. At that time, he was arrested after police found 2g and 700mg of heroin in his car.
Shehan Madusankha was a promising cricketer who made history by taking a hat-trick in his maiden ODI match which was between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2018.
