A group of active SLPPers have urged prominent businessman – Dhammika Perara to be appointed as the National Organizer of the party, reports say.

They have pointed out that Mr. Perera is the most suitable candidate for the post, which has now become vacated after Basil Rajapaksa. According to SLPP’s new Constitution, all its office bearers have to be newly appointed.

The SLPPers have also pointed out that Mr. Perera is also well known even in the grassroot levels and it would be instrumental in appointing someone to the post who has the full backing of Basil Rajapaksa, who is known as the ‘vote machine’ of the SLPP. In addition, Mr. Perera has also actively contributed to education through the ‘DP Education’ initiative, impacting over 1.5 million school children in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the ‘Aruna’ reports that the SLPP has decided to appoint the party’s next presidential candidate to the vacant National Organizer post.

Also, ‘Lanka News Web’ has reported it has been decided that MP Dhammika Perera will be presented as the SLPP candidate at the upcoming presidential election.

The SLPP Executive Committee had met last Saturday (Dec. 16) at the residence of party leader – Mahinda Rajapaksa, to appoint the new office bearers.

At the meeting, Attorney-At-Law Sagara Kariyawasam was appointed as the General Secretary, while Minister Pavithra Devi Wanniarachchi and Ven. Uthurawala Dhammarathana Thera were appointed as Treasurer and Chairman respectively. 25 members were also appointed to its politburo.
