Dilrukshi acquitted in audio recording case

Published

on

The Public Service Commission has acquitted former Director General of the Bribery Commission Dilrukshi Dias Wickremasinghe who was interdicted in connection with a controversial audio recording.

Ms.Wickremasinghe has been acquitted of the charges based on the reports previously issued by the University of Moratuwa and the Government Analyst’s Department.

The investigation reports said that the audio recording of a telephone conversation between Ms. Wickremasinghe and Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi, has been edited.

In 2019, when the relevant audio recording was circulated on social media sites, the Public Service Commission which investigated the incident interdicted Ms. Wickremasinghe on September 24, 2019.

However, a lengthy investigation conducted by the University of Moratuwa and the Government Analyst’s Department in 2021 revealed that the audio recording has been edited to distort the entire telephone conversation.

This incident was a hotly debated incident in the political arena at that time. Ms. Wickremasinghe requested Mr. Senadhipathi to release the entire phone conversation.

At the time of the incident, she was working as the Deputy Additional Solicitor General of the Attorney General’s Department.

Ms. Wickremasinghe is currently retired and with this decision of the Public Service Commission, she will be entitled to the arrears of salary and privileges.
