It was reported that there is a shortage of about 100 doctors in the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle which has led to difficulties in maintaining patient care services.

Though the number of approved doctors for the hospital is 556, only 460 doctors work at the hospital at the moment.

Hospital Director Dr. S.P.U.M. Ranga said many doctors had left the country.

Due to this shortage of doctors, he said that it has become impossible to open the newly constructed operating theatre and the intensive care unit of the hospital.
