Nishantha Priyadarshana alias “Dubai Sudda” was arrested by the investigation unit of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) yesterday (28) for allegedly sending Sri Lankans abroad for work without authorization.

The SLBFE said the suspect was arrested since he has committed a crime under the 37th Clause of the SLBFE Act.

He had attended a protest held outside the SLBFE yesterday. A group of persons who had allegedly travelled to Russia for employment through a foreign employment agency in the Nugegoda area, and were defrauded by the said agency, staged the protest outside the SLBFE premises yesterday.

Investigative teams said Priyadarshana has sent workers to several countries for work without proper authorization. After being brought before the Kaduwela Magistrate, he was released on two sureties of Rs.200,000 each.

At a time when there was a discussion about human trafficking in Oman, Dubai Sudda had returned to Sri Lanka saying that he wanted to stand up against the injustice done to the women who had been sent to Oman.
