The four members of the Elections Commission (EC) met President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat last evening (05).

The President has said the members of the Elections Commission should come to an agreement on the election since four EC members bear four disparate opinions about the election.

The President said the EC has been given full freedom to make decisions.

If necessary, Mr. Wickremesinghe asked the EC members to consult the Attorney General.

The President has said the Attorney General’s Department has already offered to provide legal assistance in this regard.

The Attorney General has asked for an update on the developments related to the election and on conducting a peaceful election. It has also been stated that if it is necessary to make any inquiries about the election, the AG can be informed directly .

According to political sources, the discussion had ended without agreement due to disparate opinions of the members.
