8 remanded for assaulting monk and two females

Eight individuals who were arrested by the Nawagamuwa police over the assault on a Buddhist monk and two women inside a house at Bomiriya, Rassapana in Nawagamuwa have been remanded till July 12 by Kaduwela Acting Magistrate Hemantha Wettasinghe today.

The magistrate also ordered that the eight suspects be presented for an identification parade on that day.

Meanwhile, Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the Navagamuwa Police are continuing investigations to arrest the suspect who had uploaded the video on social media.

Earlier, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles had ordered Western Province DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon and the Nawagamuwa OIC to arrest and implement the law against the suspects who had taken the law into their own hands and assaulted the monk and the two women.
