An elderly couple aged 75 and 65 years has passed away due to excessive consumption of alcohol in Badalkumbura.
Initial police investigations revealed that they have been addicted to alcohol.
The police said the couple recently fell down after consuming alcohol and then were taken to the hospital by the neighbours.
Their eldest son had died by suicide some time ago.
The couple has another son and a daughter who lives abroad. The police suspect the couple has used the money sent by the daughter to purchase alcohol daily.
