Minister of Energy – Kumara Jayakodi has said that the electricity tariff reductions recommended by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), will be implemented.
The minister has also clarified that the recommendations have not yet been formally received.
He has also said that electricity tariffs will be reduced by at least 30 percent in a gradual manner over the next three years.
The PUCSL recommended a 20 percent reduction in electricity tariffs with effect from midnight yesterday (Jan. 17). However a statement by the Energy Ministry issued just several hours later after the announcement had stated that the tariff revision would be implemented only upon receiving approval from the Finance Ministry.
