“Electricity tariffs should be reduced by at least 27% from July 1”

Chairman of Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Janaka Ratnayake says the electricity tariffs should be reduced by at least 27 percent from the 1st of July.

Janaka Ratnayake accused the Ceylon Electricity Board of concealing actually data and proposing a nominal decrease in tariffs.

He said the proposed 3 percent reduction in electricity tariffs is unacceptable.

Janaka Ratnayake said therefore the PUCSL has been informed the CEB to recalculate the tariffs and submit a fresh proposal.

He stressed that with the reduction in electricity tariffs, the public will receive several other benefits as well.
