The Foreign Affairs Ministry has suspended the official of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman, who is suspected of supporting the racket of selling young women taken to the offices of employment agents to be chosen by the local employers at will.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Human Trafficking and Maritime Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department to find the local brokers involved in this smuggling.

Information has revealed that Sri Lankan women taken to Dubai and Abu Dhabi are then taken to Oman and used for various criminal activities such as prostitution.

Forty five such women who were rescued are being held at a safe house in Oman.
