Entering forest and wildlife reserves in Nuwara Eliya District, camping as well as trekking in the area, has been forbidden from today (Aug. 04) onwards.
The decision, taken during a discussion with the Wildlife Department, the Forest Conservation Department and the police, was announced to the media by Nuwara Eliya District Secretary – Mr. Nandana Galabada during a media briefing today.
He said that the decision was taken after discovering the remains of an unidentified female on the Great Western Mountain in Thalawakele.
He has also said that anyone who wishes to enter any areas under the Wildlife Department and the Forest Conservation Department in the future, should initially obtain permission after filling out a form with their details such as name, address, NIC number and telephone number etc. Also, they should hand over the details to the nearest police station and obtain their assent as well. After ending their visit to the areas, the visitors should inform the police in person or via a phone call that their visit had ended, he added.
