The Council of the European Union (EU) has renewed the proscription of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) within the EU for an additional six months, as announced by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This decision, made on Friday (July 26), extends the listing of the LTTE under the Common Position 2001/931/CFSP, which targets groups involved in terrorism.
Under this proscription, the LTTE is subject to the freezing of funds and other financial assets or economic resources within EU member states.
This proscription subjects the LTTE to a freeze on funds, financial assets, and economic resources within EU member states.
Additionally, EU entities are prohibited from providing funds or economic resources to the banned organization.
