Ex-rugby player arrested over robbery

A former player of the Sri Lankan rugby team was arrested on March 7 by the Kadana Police in Kaduwela in connection with a robbery of a 27-pound gold necklace from a millionaire businessman at Linton Road, Kadana.

Police said the 38-year-old suspect has represented the Sri Lankan rugby team for five years since 2007 and is heavily addicted to ‘ice’ drugs.

Police said the suspect came on a motorcycle on the night of February 20 and snatched the gold necklace of the businessman outside his house before running away.

The businessman had faced this incident while cleaning a drain outside the house. According to the complaints received regarding the incident, the police had inspected footage obtained from 48 CCTV cameras to identify the suspect.
