Former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Lalith Jayasinghe to four years of rigorous imprisonment for releasing a suspect in connection with the gang rape and murder of 18-year-old schoolgirl S. Vidya in Punguduthivu in 2015.
SDIG Lalith Jayasinghe is accused of helping Swiss Kumar evade arrest in the case over the rape and murder of Sivaloganathan Vithiya, a controversial incident reported in 2015.
The Vavuniya High Court has delivered the sentence today (Feb. 20).
