Expressway employees commence token strike

The All-Island Expressway Workers’ Union has commenced a token strike this morning (Nov. 22) over multiple demands including pension issues.

Chairman of the Union – Hasitha Munasinghe said the strike was launched at 7.00am today.

Meanwhile, the Road Development Authority said that the strike will not impact the flow of traffic along the expressway.

Director General of the RDA – L. V. S. Weerakoon, said that the armed forces personnel were deployed for the protection of the expressway, and the military personnel will be involved in the issuing of tickets.
