The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has made plans to introduce a new pension scheme for farmers from next month.
Chairman of the Board, Maddumabandara Weerasekera said the existing farmers pension scheme has not been actively implemented since 2008.
Mr. Weerasekera said that they expect to make new registrations under the new pension scheme from next month. “Those who are engaged in any agricultural activities such as in farming, fishing and plantations etc. between the ages of 18 to 59 years can register for the new pension scheme,” he said.
