Fuel sheds close early as demand drops

Despite an abundance of fuel stocks at filling stations, the demand in the market has decreased, says Mr. Shelton Fernando, the President of the All Ceylon Filling Station Owners Association.

With the drop in demand and the increase of electricity bills, most filling stations are compelled to close by 9.00pm – 10.00pm, he adds.

Noting the filling stations are usually open until 1.00am or 2.00am during the festive season, Mr. Fernando says that another reason for the early closures is the inability to cover expenses such as employee wages and overtime payments in this prevailing economic situation.
