The Petroleum Distributors Association warned that a fuel shortage could occur in the coming days.
While the marketing manager and regional managers of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) have said that fuel will be issued on cheques, the Association said a head of CPC Financial Department has said that fuel will only be issued if paid in cash.
Therefore, it said that many filling stations were unable to receive orders yesterday (05).
The Association said that there was a difficulty in withdrawing cash since the banks were closed for Poya Day yesterday.
Although the consumers would continue to visit filling stations since the fuel quota has been increased, the Association said that there are signs that the fuel supply will be disrupted.
It said that if the fuel supply is disrupted during the festive season, the consumers will have to face severe difficulties.
