Gazette on selling goods online to be reversed?

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) is mulling to cancel the recently issued special gazette to regulate the activities of online sellers and sellers operating on digital platforms, ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ learnt.

It was reported that this gazette would be cancelled since there have been allegations that it has encroached on the duties and responsibilities of the Central Bank.

It was reported that not even the higher-ups of the CAA were aware of the relevant gazette because it had not been prepared by the CAA.

However, the gazette was issued with the signature of CAA Chairman Shantha Niriella.

Meanwhile, National Movement for the Protection of Consumer Rights Chairman Ranjith Vithanage also questioned the CAA earlier on the transparency of the relevant gazette.
