Gihan Pilapitiya nominated as Public Trustee!

The government has decided to appoint Kuliyapitiya High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya as the Public Trustee.

Accordingly, it was reported that Mr. Pilapitiya has been released from the High Court service by the Judicial Service Commission headed by the Chief Justice.

Mr. Pilapitiya, who will be appointed as the new Public Trustee, is an alumnus of St. Thomas College, Bandarawela and Dharmaraja College, Kandy.

He obtained his LLB from the University of Colombo and joined the Attorney General’s Department in 1999 as a State Counsel.

He joined the judicial service as a Magistrate in 2003 and has worked as a Magistrate, District Court Judge and High Court Judge in various parts of the country for 20 years.

The appointment of Mr. Pilapitiya to the position of Public Trustee is based on a special decision of the Cabinet.

Apart from this, it was also reported that a number of senior judges including the Assistant Secretary General of Parliament Tikiri Jayathilaka will be appointed as High Court Judges in the coming days.
