GMOA says no to Health Services Dy. Director

The Central Committee of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has unanimously decided not to accept Dr. G. Wijesuriya as the Deputy Director General of Health Services (DGHS).

Speaking at a news conference held in Colombo, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the GMOA’s decision is to be notified to the Public Service Commission (PSC) in the coming week.

Dr. Aluthge said that they will also file a complaint against Dr. Wijesuriya to the PSC.

Meanwhile, the token strike launched yesterday (24) by the Professionals of Supplementary Medical Service in all the hospitals based on seven demands ended at 8.00 am today (25).

Due to the strike, the patients who visited the hospitals yesterday faced severe difficulties.

The Secretary of the Health Ministry invited the Professionals of Supplementary Medical Service for a meeting last morning to discuss their issues.

Four Sri Lankan players have been included in the ICC men’s ODI team of 2024.

Sri Lankan players Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga have been named in this manner.

Also, Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain while Kusal Mendis has been named as the wicket keeper of the team.

2 including Salochana Gamage granted bail

Two persons including former Western Provincial Councillor – Salochana Gamage, who were arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe, have been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (24).

Each suspect was granted bail, subject to a cash bail of Rs. 25,000, two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each, and an overseas travel ban. 

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali also ordered that the guarantors must be close relatives of the two suspects.
