The Court of Appeal today (July 17) ordered the granting of bail to General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena – Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero.
Upon concluding the examination of his revision petition, the Appeal Court bench led by Justice Sampath Abeykoon, set the bail at 50,000 rupees in cash and two personal sureties amounting to 500,000 rupees each.
On March 28, the Thera was sentenced to a four-year term of rigorous imprisonment, over disruption of national and religious harmony stemming from remarks made during a 2016 press conference in Colombo.
