Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, via Sri Lankan Airlines on Monday.
He plans to visit various Buddhist sites and is scheduled to go to Bharatpur.
Sources indicate that Rajapaksa has a close relationship with the Chaudhary Group, which has investments in Sri Lanka and has extended invitations for him to visit Nepal.
His current trip is described as personal and family-oriented rather than political, with Rajapaksa staying at Hotel Vivanta in Jhamsikhel.
Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka amid a massive uprising two years ago but returned later.
His visit coincides with the swearing-in of Sri Lanka’s new President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is Marxist-leaning.
