Senior Lecturer Ven. Dambara Amila Thero has emphasised that the intervention of the government and University Grants Commission (UGC) is essential for a proper resolution to the prevailing crisis at the External Degrees and Extension Courses Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Last Monday (June 23), the External Degrees and Extension Courses Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) announced that all seminars and registration activities of external degree programmes will be temporarily suspended from June 24.
The suspension is due to issues and ambiguities arising from University Grants Commission (UGC) circulars No. 932, 1/2016, and 4/2016, issued since 2010.
The university states that efforts are underway to resolve the matter, and academic activities will resume as soon as the issues are cleared.
The Colombo High Court has ordered the re-convening of the case filed by the Attorney General against Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa on September 26.
The case pertains to allegations that Rajapaksa received Rs. 70 million from the Indian company ‘Krrish’ under the pretext of promoting the game of rugby.
Rajapaksa, appeared before the court when the case was taken up today (June 27).
