Grama Niladharis warn of indefinite strike

The Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Association is to hold a decisive meeting today (July 01) regarding their demands for a service constitution.

Chairman of the association Sumith Kodikara stated that the discussion will be held with the President’s Chief of Staff and National Security Advisor, Sagala Ratnayaka.

They warn to strike indefinitely if their issues are not adequately addressed.

Two dead in Yatiyanthota estate house fire

Two people have died in a fire that broke out early today (03) in a row of estate houses in Palallegama, Yatiyanthota. 

The victims, a 60-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, were in the first house that caught fire. 

The blaze damaged three estate houses, and the cause is under investigation, according to the police.

Two 15-yr. olds fall from Altair building

It is reported that two 15-year-old students have lost their lives after falling from the 67th floor of the Altair building in the Slave Island area of Colombo.

According to Slave Island police, the deceased, a male and female student, were studying at an international school in Kurunduwatta, Colombo. The male student was from Wellawatta, and the female student was from Kelaniya.

Meanwhile, media reports have suggested that the two students may have committed suicide by jumping from the building.

Laugfs gas prices to remain unchanged

The price of Laugfs domestic LP gas cylinders will remain unchanged, despite price reductions made by Litro Gas PLC today (July 02), the company announced.

Accordingly, the current prices of Laugfs domestic LP gas cylinders are as follows : 

12.5 kg cylinder – Rs. 3,680
05 kg cylinder – Rs. 1,477

Earlier today, Litro Gas PLC announced their decision to slash gas prices.
