Guests visiting General’s House sans MP turned away

A group of friends of an MP who visited the ‘General’s House’ reserved for Members of Parliament in Nuwara Eliya have been turned away by its managers last week.

Only an MP or family members who come with an MP can stay at the bungalow, and the managers have taken action to send this group away since they have arrived on their own without an MP.

A law was recently enacted by the heads of Parliament that if this bungalow is to be reserved, the relevant MP must be there with the visitors.

This decision was taken after taking into consideration the complaints received from a group of MPs that certain MPs’ friends who have reserved this bungalow have behaved in a way that inconveniences other MPs and their family members.

This is the only bungalow reserved for the MPs, and the daily charge for one room for an MP is Rs.1,000.

It was reported that this issue has been discussed at length in the House Committee meeting in Parliament recently.
