A state revenue target of Rs.3,101 billion should be achieved within this year, President’s Director General (State Revenue) M.J. Gunasiri said.
However, the director general said that only Rs.1,711 billion have been collected from the targeted revenue.
Collecting the remainder has become the responsibility of the three government agencies that collect revenue.
The Inland Revenue Department has to collect an income of Rs.1,667 billion this year.
So far, it has collected Rs.797 billion and it has to collect Rs.870 billion more in the next 4 months.
The Sri Lanka Customs Department and the Excise Department have to collect more revenue this year than previous years.
Accordingly, the three departments are facing the challenge of collecting Rs.1,390 billion by the end of the year.
