Halt arbitrary transfers in state offices – SJB
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has urged the government to immediately halt all arbitrary transfers being carried out at both central and provincial government services.
A statement issued by SJB General Secretary – MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara notes that there appears to be a systematic plan to transfer state officials across numerous sectors based on irrational and unacceptable grounds.
This has reportedly affected positions such as Assistant Commissioners of Local Government, Secretaries of Local Government institutions, and Co-operative Assistant Development Commissioners, among others.
The statement highlighted that these arbitrary actions contradict the Government’s promise to uphold the independence of the public service and that the timing of these transfers coincide with the ongoing cooperative elections.
The SJB further announced the establishment of a special unit to investigate these incidents and invited the public to submit information, either anonymously or with attribution.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath today (May 14) met with the Canadian High Commissioner in Colomno to formally object to Canada’s approval and inauguration of a Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton, Ontario.
Minister Herath had reiterated the Government of Sri Lanka’s strong objections regarding the unfounded genocide allegations and the approval of constructing such a monument, which complicates and undermines the government’s efforts toward reconciliation and national unity.The MFA statement issued in this regard is as follows :
