Harin hints next PM could be from Uva Province!

Former Minister Harin Fernando has hinted that the next Prime Minister could be from the Uva Province.

He made these comments at an ‘Ekwa Jayagamu’ event held in Badulla yesterday (Aug. 11).

“I can sense this. If we need to appoint a Prime Minister from the Uva Province, if we can win all 09 seats (from Badulla District), I will take the responsibility to make him the Prime Minister,” he said, referring to Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, who was also in attendance.

In the 2020 Parliamentary election, Nimal Siripala de Silva topped the Badulla district preferential vote list, obtaining 141,901 votes.

Muslim schools closed on June 06 & 09 for Hajj

Muslims in Sri Lanka will celebrate the Hajj festival (Eid al-Adha) on June 07.

Accordingly, Muslim schools will be given holidays on June 06 and June 09.

However, as per a media release issued by the Ministry of Education on May 25, Muslim schools  functioned on May 26 and 27 as replacement dates.

New expressway bus service from BIA to Colombo Fort

A new expressway bus service has been launched between the Katunayake Airport and Colombo Fort.

Previously operating from the Awariyawatte bus stand, the service began plying directly from the airport from June 05.

The bus service will operate 24/7 and the one-way fare has been set at Rs.290.

Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku said the move is part of a broader effort to improve public transport for airport travelers.

Initially, private buses will be used, with luggage-friendly buses to be introduced soon. Bus staff will also receive special training to meet international service standards.

Proposal to set up Parliamentary Caucus on Arts & Cultural Affairs, handed over to Speaker

A proposal to establish a Parliamentary Caucus on Arts and Cultural Affairs in the Tenth Parliament was submitted to Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne at the Parliament premises yesterday (June 04).

This proposal was submitted by National People’s Power MPs – Jagath Manuwarna and Ruwan Mapalagama.

Accordingly, this proposal is scheduled to be submitted to the next Committee on Parliamentary Business for consideration and further action.
