Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Registrar of Pesticides to immediately regulate the sale of the same pesticide under different names at higher prices.
When naming pesticides, 75% of the name should include the chemical compound included in herbicides and insecticides.
However, the farmers have informed the Minister of Agriculture that the pesticides sold in some areas have not followed these standards.
The minister said that the law will be implemented against the institutions and individuals who sell and distribute inferior insecticides and herbicides to the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Agricultural Development, the Ministry of Agriculture or the Pesticides Registrar’s Office and that steps will be taken to blacklist them.
