The Department of Meteorology has announced that the Colombo District has received the highest rainfall within the period from 08.30 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 06) to 07.00 a.m. today (Oct.07) after recording a rainfall of 162.5mm.
Heavy downpours have also been reported in Walallavita (112.5mm) and Horana (111.5mm) areas of Kalutara District, Neluwa (109.5mm) in Galle Districts and Kalubovitiyana (84.0mm) in Matara District, as per the Department of Meteorology.
Meanwhile, the National Building and Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued early landslide warnings to multiple areas in four districts, as heavy rainfall continues in parts of the island.
Accordingly, a Level 2 (Amber) warning has been issued for several areas in the Galle and Kalutara districts as follows:
– Galle District: Nagoda and Elpitiya Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSD) and surrounding areas
– Kaluthara District: Walallawita DSD and surrounding areas
Meanwhile, a Level 1 (Yellow) warning was issued for the following areas:
– Galle District: Niyagama DSD and surrounding areas
– Kegalle District: Dehiovita DSD and surrounding areas
– Matara District: Pitabeddara DSD and surrounding areas
