The fire that broke out at a paint manufacturing factory in Homagama Industrial Zone (HIZ) has been extinguished by 3.00 am today (18), police said.
They said that it was difficult to put out the fire due to constant chemical explosions.
With the help of the army and the police, the fire fighting units arrived in six fire trucks from the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council and the Horana Urban Council extinguished the fire.
It was also examined whether there was any impact on the air quality due to the fire.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of Colombo Disaster Management Unit has issued a special notice to Homagama residents.
Accordingly, he requested the residents to wear face masks due to the impact on the environment caused by the fire.
The Disaster Management Unit requested the people to follow these instructions to reduce the respiratory complications that may arise as a result of the smoke.
