The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has decided to launch an investigation into a petition filed alleging that the human rights of the people have been violated due to the shortage of medicinal drugs and the increase in their prices.

The Health Secretary, the Director General of Health Services and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) have been named as respondents in the petition filed by the Physicians’ Trade Union Alliance for Medical and Civil Rights.

The Commission said a notice has been issued to the Ministry of Health in connection with the investigations.
