Toxic perfumes and cosmetics have been brought into the country illegally and are being sold in the local market due to the non-implementation of the laws related to the imports of medicines and perfumes, Dermatologist Dr. Nayani Madarasinghe said while speaking at a news conference held yesterday (09).
Since there is a risk of contracting various skin diseases by using these types of skincare products which are not registered at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), Dr. Madarasinghe advised the public to buy only the approved products.
She said the law related to the import of medicines and perfumes has been re-implemented.
She also pointed out that beneficial bacteria will be destroyed if the skin is washed excessively using several products.
