Poultry farmers have called upon the Government to explore the possibility of reducing the tax on chicken and eggs.
Sri Lanka Poultry Farmers Association Executive Director S.M.Premaratne told the media that Rs. 240 is charged for every kilogramme of poultry meat by the Government as taxes. Poultry farmers pay Rs.6 for each egg as taxes to the Government but only one rupee is charged as taxes for an imported egg at present.
