National List MP Imtiaz Bakir Marker is set to be appointed as the new chairman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), replacing Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.
According to SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, senior party members are currently discussing the appointment.
In this regard, General Secretary Maddumabandara’s comments to the “Daily Mirror” are as follows:
“We are currently discussing the matter at the moment. It is obvious that we have to appoint a new chairman as Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who held the post since 2020 is no longer with us. Also, there is nothing new in appointing Mr. Bakeer Markar as the chairman as we initially decided to appoint him to the post when we were forming SJB,” Mr. Madduma Bandara said.
“The final decision will be made by the working committee, which is expected to meet next week. We are also planning to hold a party convention as well,” he added.
