The Indian Navy’s warship INS Teg has successfully rescued nine crew members from the capsized oil tanker MT Falcon Prestige off the coast of Oman.
Among the rescued, eight are Indian nationals, and one is Sri Lankan.
The oil tanker, flagged under Comoros, capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah near the port town of Duqm in Oman.
The vessel had 16 crew members on board, including three Sri Lankans.
The rescue operations are being conducted under challenging weather conditions with rough seas and strong winds.
The Indian Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I is also involved in the search for the remaining crew members.
Sri Lankan Navy Spokesperson Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya has confirmed ongoing communications with the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre in Oman to ascertain the status of the three missing Sri Lankan nationals.
