India has expressed interest to supply 10 locomotives to Sri Lanka under a financial assistance, Sri Lanka Railways General Manager W.A.D.S. Gunasinghe said.
He said a team of railway officials will visit India for a quality check prior to exporting the engines from India.
He said local railway services have been seriously hampered due to the shortage of locomotives.
Despite old locomotives being added to the fleet after being repaired, commuters were often inconvenienced due to technical failures, he added.
