Celebrations of the 77th Indian Independence Day was held in Colombo today morning (Aug. 15).
The flag hoisting ceremony and celebrations were held at the India House under the auspices of High Commissioner Gopal Bagle, which was attended by hundreds of Indian nationals in Sri Lanka.
The event had a special feature by the Sri Lanka Navy Band who played ‘Vande Mataram’ & ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’. Dance performances by students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) had also added colour.
The theme for Independence Day 2023 is “Nation First, Always First”.
Meanwhile, Indian PM – Narendra Modi led the main national celebrations as he unfurled the national flag at the historic Red Fort in Delhi.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi has said that his government was making every effort to restore peace in the state of Manipur.
“I want to tell the people of Manipur that the country is with you,” Mr Modi said.
Speaking on the development of India, he said : “I am confident that in 2047, when India marks 100 years of its independence, it will be a developed nation.”
