Indo – Lanka defence seminar & exhibition in Colombo

The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka is organizing the first India- Sri Lanka Defence Seminar and Exhibition to promote cooperation and collaboration between the two countries on defence equipment today (June 07) at Taj Samudra, Colombo.

The event would witness participation from the Indian Defence Industry, Sri Lankan entrepreneurs, Sri Lanka Armed Forces, Police and Special Task Force.  State Minister of Defence – Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon will be the Chief Guest and other senior officials from Sri Lanka including Secretary of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Commanders will grace the event.

A statement by the Indian High Commission in this regard further notes :

The grand event includes a Seminar highlighting the capability and capacities of the two countries in defence equipment manufacturing and would also exhibit a wide variety of defence products. The event, keeping with the Government of India’s endeavour to deepen ties with Sri Lanka through inclusive and collaborative engagement, aims to identify newer areas of cooperation for economic revival whilst ensuring capacity building of Sri Lanka Armed Forces. The exhibition will also be open to the public, providing them an opportunity to see various defence equipment on display.

It may be recalled that Sri Lanka Armed forces have been successfully operating a wide range of Indian defence equipment like Indra Radar, Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels, L 70 Guns, Dornier Aircraft and Army training simulators. Similarly, Indian armed forces use Fast Interceptor Crafts and refit of Floating Dock at Colombo. More recently, the Government of India has committed to the supply of Floating Dock, Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre and Dornier aircraft which would ensure capacity building of Sri Lanka Armed Forces.

New Commissioner General appointed to Examinations Dept.

Subhashini Indika Kumari Liyanage has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of Examinations, effective immediately.

She succeeds H.J.M.C.A. Jayasundara, whose term ended on May 06, 2025.

Liyanage, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service, previously served as an Examinations Commissioner in the Department of Examinations.

Her appointment was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

In addition, the Speaker further announced to Parliament that the Committee of Selection had also nominated Members of Parliament Aboobucker Athambawa, Arkam Ilyas, Mayilvaganam Jegatheeswaran to serve on the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Member of Parliament Sunil Rathnasiri to serve on the Committee on Public Accounts. (COPA).
