Interest-free loans for school leavers from tomorrow

The process of accepting applications to provide interest-free loans to 5,000 students who completed Advanced Level Examination in 2019, 2020 and 2021 will commence tomorrow (04), Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

The State Minister said the children who would receive the loan should focus on pursuing job-oriented courses.

He said the project to provide interest-free loans to 5,000 students to study in private universities has been approved and it will be officially announced by the Ministry of Education. 

“Applicants can apply from July 4 to August 7. This is a special measure taken by the government to fulfill the needs of higher education. The entire interest of these loans is paid by the government. The priority is given for job-oriented courses. More than 90% of students have pursued courses that are in demand for employment immediately after graduation. Accordingly, this loan is for those who are dedicated and committed to study special courses in private universities,” he said.
