The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has agreed to pay an interest on the amount deposited by the consumers when purchasing a new service connection from July, the Power and Renewable Energy Consumers Association said.

Its member Ravindranath Dabare said the CEB has failed to pay the interest to the electricity consumers according to the Electricity Act.

He said the CEB agreed to pay the interest following a legal battle fought in the courts.

He said that a request was made to pay the interest for the deposits of the common public first and that’s also in cash.
