The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an interim injunction restraining the implementation of an order given by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court allowing the Road Development Authority (RDA) to demolish the Sambuddhaloka Temple at Orugodawatta Junction.
This interim order was issued when a writ petition filed by Ven. Halmillakulame Sugathganana Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the temple, was considered by the Appellate Court Bench consisting of Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and A.Marikkar.
The RDA and others have been named as respondents in the petition.
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court earlier issued an order giving permission for the demolition of the temple considering a case filed by the RDA.
