International Day of Democracy today



The International Day of Democracy falls today (15) and this year’s theme is ‘Empowering the Next Generation’.

Democracy is the ruling of the community by the community itself or through a system built on the collective decision of the community.

On the International Day of Democracy, the world’s democratic states provide opportunities to discuss democracy.

Some governments around the world and those in power can be seen obstructing democratic freedom.

Sri Lanka is a country that elects its rulers through voting, which is an important part of democracy, since 1931.

Justice and Constitutional Reforms Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that a great amount of work has been done to ensure democracy in the recent past.
