The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) has decided to contest the upcoming Local Government Elections independently after failing to form a political alliance with other Tamil parties.
The decision was finalized during internal party discussions on March 8, according to ITAK General Secretary and former MP M. A. Sumanthiran.
Sumanthiran acknowledged that despite multiple attempts to form a coalition, the efforts were unsuccessful.
As a result, ITAK will field candidates in both the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
The party is working to complete the preparation of nomination papers this week.
