Ambassador of Japan – Mr. Mizukoshi Hideaki, today (12) handed over the technical standards prepared by Japan on the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) project in Sri Lanka to Minister of Mass Media – Bandula Gunawardana.
Japan has been continuously supporting the DTTB project in Sri Lanka since 2014 by a Japanese ODA loan assistance. The DTTB project will offer two major benefits to Sri Lanka. It will not only provide all the people of Sri Lanka with the experience of watching High-Definition television broadcasts free of charge, but will also strengthen the telecommunications infrastructure that serves as the foundation for the digitalization of social and economic activities through the effective use of the radio waves.
Ambassador Mizukoshi stressed how significant this project is in terms of implementing “Digital Economy” that the government of Sri Lanka has been focusing on as one of its top priorities, as well as exploring bilateral cooperation in this field.
It is sincerely hoped that this milestone project will be successfully completed soon to help achieve the sustainable development of Sri Lanka as well as to further develop our bilateral relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
