Chief Prelate of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya – Ven. Walahagunawewa Dhammarathana Thero says the JVP leader – Anura Kumara Dissanayake must make a public statement on whether the party received Rs. 3000 million from India for their election campaign.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy yesterday (Feb. 13), the Thero said he learned that the JVP had received funds in this manner.
“What do they say today about the so-called patriotism of the JVP, that led to the deaths of thousands of youth and demanded that not a single medicine capsule should be brought from India in the 89-90s? plans have already been made to give Sri Lanka’s strategic locations such as ports, airports as well as telecom, electricity boards, insurance corporations, banks, animal farms to India. The JVP says that Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who studied this, went to India for discussions. Now, the JVP says that there is no issue if Indian companies obtain Sri Lankan assets through Tender procedures, seeking a commission themselves in return. We have learnt of all this… It is said that the US ambassador paved the way to obtain over Rs. 3000 million for the election campaign. The JVP leader should make an open statement about this,” the Thera has said.
