Two suspects arrested in connection with the fatal shooting at Galpoththa Junction, Kotahena, were killed in a police shootout during an operation to recover hidden firearms.
Police Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga stated that the suspects attempted to snatch weapons and opened fire at officers, prompting police to return fire.
The suspects, who sustained injuries in the exchange, died after being admitted to the hospital.
A police officer was also injured and is currently hospitalized.
The suspects were arrested last night in Grandpass while fleeing the scene of the shooting, which claimed the life of a 36-year-old man.
