Around 500 employees of Lanka Salt Ltd. held a protest in front of the Mahalewaya (Main saltern) in Hambantota yesterday (Dec. 09)

Trade unions of the Mahalewaya, who had organised the protest say that workers of the Bundala and Palatupana salterns also backed the protest by going on strike during the time of the protest.

TUs also say that employees also refrained from providing additional services from yesterday onwards.

Employees claim that several Director Board members of Lanka Salt Ltd.had bent the rules by obtaining bonuses of Rs. 125,000 each.

Pointing out that the employees have not received sufficient bonuses unlike the Director Board members, they called on the authorities to provide them with proper bonuses.
